The science behind Beave

Why flipping your phone, blocking distractions, and focusing with friends actually helps.

Beave is not built on productivity folklore. Each part of it is informed by published research on attention, motivation, and behaviour change. Here is what the science says, and how Beave puts it to work.

1. Putting your phone down frees up your mind

What Beave does

A focus session begins when you place your phone face-down.

The research

A 2017 study memorably titled "Brain Drain" found that the mere presence of your own smartphone, even powered off and face-down, reduces your available cognitive capacity. People who left their phone in another room outperformed those who kept it on the desk. [1]

4. Focusing alongside someone makes it easier
